Caramel Apple Tarts are a delicious and easy-to-make dessert that is perfect for any occasion. The tart crust is flaky and buttery, and the caramel apple filling is sweet and gooey. These tarts are sure to please everyone at your next gathering.

For the crust:

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
  • 1/4 cup ice water

For the caramel filling:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter

For the apple filling:

  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  1. To make the crust, combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a food processor. Pulse to combine. Add the butter and pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the ice water and pulse until the dough just comes together.
  2. Form the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. To make the caramel filling, combine the sugar, water, lemon juice, and salt in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the caramel is amber in color. Remove from the heat and stir in the butter.
  4. To make the apple filling, combine the apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Toss to coat.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a 12-inch circle. Transfer the dough to a 9-inch tart pan. Trim the edges, leaving a 1-inch overhang.
  7. Pour the caramel filling into the bottom of the tart crust. Top with the apple filling.
  8. Fold the overhang of the tart crust over the edge of the filling. Crimp the edges to seal.
  9. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  10. Let cool completely before serving.

  • For a more intense caramel flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of granulated sugar.
  • If you don’t have a tart pan, you can use a 9-inch pie plate instead. Just be sure to trim the excess dough around the edges.
  • Serve the tarts warm or at room temperature.
